Unfortunately you can get Oral Herpes from your girlfriend if you give her oral sex. What you can do is avoid sex (not just traditional intercourse, but anything that involves her genitals) when she has an outbreak and she in turn can use antiviral medication. This doesn't make it 100% safe outside outbreak periods, but it's pretty good.
